What is the “Key” to earning money with the net? Do you have it?

So been a while since I last posted but I always want to wait until I have something at least semi interesting to say before I decide to clog up your life with even more information. I suppose that can be a pretty big problem when it comes making a living on the internet, information overload! Yes it can happen to us all, you keep stuffing your brain full of the latest “secret” or “trick” to help you conquer the web and you end up getting more and more confused. Analysis paralysis can be one of the most dangerous things that can happen in any field but it’s even worse on the net as there are millions of gurus all trying to sell you something different.

So how to you work out if you’re on the right path to making money online or another road to ruin? One of the easiest ways to tell is by asking yourself if this method even makes sense to you and/or other people? It’s not an easy question to ask, especially if you have already invested a lot of time and money into this system. Some people don’t know when to quit and others can’t get started.

One thing I do feel has been key to my success and made it possible for me to consistently earn good money online is perseverance. I once heard the phrase

“Brute force beats perfect understanding every time”

And it more or less describes my entire internet philosophy when it comes to building websites and making a living as its been as much the failures as the successes that have helped me to learn this whole industry. What it means is that you get to a point where you just have to dive in and see what happens when you test things. Google is one big puzzle and the only way to find out how it really works is to build something. So many people want the perfect formula before they start so they have no possibility of failure but starting with that attitude more or less guarantees one result (and it’s not a good one).

One thing you also bear in mind that despite what you may think internet businesses do not have overnight success any more than any other business. While yes you can get massive amounts of traffic and hype to your website overnight, this will never or very rarely convert into instant money. Remember traffic and visitors do not always = money, just look at YouTube and Twitter, millions of visitors every day and they still can’t make a profit. Remember quality beats quantity every time, don’t chase a market/visitors that you can never turn into hard ££££.

One mistake that I see people making all the time when trying to earn money is to start a website about something they love without researching the market properly to see if the money is actually there. Yes you may have a passion for purple slippers with glitter but how many other people do? How many of them are searching for this every day on Google? How many of these people can you convert into sales and £££?

Ok so far you may be thinking this post is all negativity about the pitfalls about a career on the internet and there are so many mistakes you can make when you start but the truth is that many of them can be overcome with hard work and perseverance. This also brings me to another very important point about online marketing and that is that you really have to have an interest in it at some level to really achieve success. I was actually explaining to a friend of mine who also wants to get into this business that you really have to have an interest in it if you’re going to have any kind of success. He said:

“Im interested in making money, does that count?”

The thing is I told him, you won’t always be making money so how will you stay motivated at these times (especially the start). You see I don’t think you have to be a genius to earn money but like most things I think hard work (and a little bit of luck) are what really makes the difference. So until next time….

Another make money blogging scam? Probably

One of the biggest problems with the make money online industry is that the number of people actually making any money at all is quite low. This stands to reason as you have no way of verifying weather the people you are reading about are for real or not. One of my favourite bloggers is Grizzy bears and you can believe me when i say he tells it how it really is. His latest post is great as he really calls out some of the scammers in the industry like Derren Rowse. The reason Grizz himself is not a scammer when it comes to making money on the internet is because he actually details the method he is using to make money. That method is of course to rank in the search engines (mainly google) for keywords which are associated with a sale.

On the one hand this seems to simple but its really not, as SEO is a skill that can take a while to master. However once you have the basics down you can wash rinse and repeat. Also bear in mind SEO is not an exact science and anyone who says they know specifics of how google works is probably lying as google don’t say how their system functions.

One of the most common things you will see with these “make money sites” is they don’t actually say how what they are selling works or will earn you a living online. This method is not exclusive to the internet world, you have probably seen the “money system” adverts in newspapers where people talk about how they have made millions using a new system yet they offer no information on how this system actually works. It can be easy to get sucked into these schemes but what you have to remember is that if something is too good to be true then it probably is. Also think about the fact that if you were making £1000s a month from some “system” would you be selling it on? Especially when you consider that with almost anything the more people “doing it” the less effective it’s going to be.

So as i have hopefully spelled out a little the way i make money is not a system that i am trying to sell and not even really a secret. While i do make money on broad terms by “blogging” there is more to it than that. The key is that you are getting people to your site who are looking to buy something or purchase a service. Now getting these people could be really hard or really easy but what i want to get across as early as possible is the getting these people is the foundation of everything that i do, because once i have them the rest is easy £££!

Make money online by blogging?

One of the most general questions i get from day to day is if it is possible to earn money online by blogging. The reason i say this is a general question is that there is more than one way to make money from your blog and it will also depend on the type of blog you have. The first thing that you have to realise is that your earnings depend very much on the content of your blog. If you are just going to create a blog about yourself and what type of cereal you had for breakfast then its pretty unlikely many advertisers are going to want to pay for traffic coming from your site. The key is to consider weather your traffic is “buying traffic” or not, what i mean by this is does the person who hits your blog for the first time weather from search engines or social media have the intention of making a purchase? If the answer is no then you are going to find it hard to convert any of these visitors to your blog into real cash. Consider as well that many of todays advertisers work on a commisson basis and if your traffic isnt making them money then you can bet they wont keep you around for long. So supposing you do have traffic to your blog that is worth money, how can you monotise it?

adsense

  • The first i will mention is probably the most well known from google called adsense. Its very simple to use as all you have to do is put the code on your site and google works out what  your site/blog is about and displays the relevant ads. You can do some configuring as far as colours etc go but its pretty much what you see is what you get.
  • Another way to earn money from your blog is allow other people who have blogs or sites to place their links on your site. For this you do need to have a reasonable popularity level for your blog and also some authority to go with it as this is what people are paying for. The main way to get these jobs is just to become and authority in your niche and wait for people to contact you.
  • The last way i will mention is a little more work but can sometimes yield alot more money. This is direct affiliate marketing whcih involves you linking directly to another website or blog who sells the product or service that you are talking about. This will envlove a little looking around to find the best place that sells the product and not everyone has an affiliate scheme but most of the bigger sites will.

So there you have a short run down on quick ways to make money from your blog. As i said at the start these are not the only ways to earn money from your website but they are a start!
